Why does my floss tear and shred when I try to floss my tooth?

Floss is designed to wipe the surfaces between adjacent teeth and the part of the tooth located below the gum line. Poorly placed fillings may catch your floss and tear or shred the floss when you try and remove it from between teeth. The part of a filling that is adapted poorly to the tooth is called an ‘overhang‘. The filling responsible will need to be replaced so as to prevent future tooth and gum related problems. Care should be taken when replacing the filling to ensure that the new fillings is adapted well to your tooth cavity to avoid a repeat of your problem.
