What is an Endodontist?

dentalMaterials

Endodontists are experts in root canal treatment and other procedures involving the pulp (the internal structures of a tooth).

An Endodontist is a specialist dentist, who, after qualifying and practicing as a dentist has undertaken a further 3 years at university to study the specialty of Endodontics. Endodontists restrict their practice to this specialty exclusively which makes them well placed to address the many and varied aspects of routine and complex endodontic issues.

They are experienced in managing complicated cases, including diagnosing and relieving orofacial pain, treating traumatic injuries to teeth and retreating previously unsuccessful root canal fillings. Whilst dentists are trained in basic endodontic procedures, if it is a difficult tooth or the root filling has not worked previously, your dentist will likely refer you to an Endodontist.
